2. In 1921, at Boyle’s Thirty Acres in Jersey City, Jack Dempsey
knocks out Georges Carpentier in the fourth round of boxing’s
first million dollar gate.
3. In 1931, at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland, Max Schmeling
retains the world heavyweight title by knocking out Georgia’s
Young Stribling at the 2:46 mark of
the fifteenth-round.
4. In 1910, in the very first “Battle of the Century,” Jack Johnson
knocks out former champion James J. Jeffries in Reno,
Nevada, at the 2:20 mark of round fifteen in a fight that was
scheduled for forty-five rounds.
4. In 1919, at Bay View Park Arena in Toledo, Ohio, Jack
Dempsey obliterates Jess Willard in three savage rounds to win
the world heavyweight title. Willard’s corner threw in the towel
at the start of round-four.
5. In 1704, John Broughton is born in Cirencester, England. He
became a famous English bareknuckle boxer and introduced
boxing’s very first set of rules.
6. In 2015, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is illegally stripped of his WBO
welterweight title after refusing to pay their usurious $2000, 000
sanctioning fee.
7. In 2007, at the Harbour Yard Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut,
Nonito Donaire stops Vic Darchinyan at the 1:38 mark of round-
five capture the IBF/IBO world flyweight titles.
8. In 1989, at The Mirapolis in Cergy-Pontoise, at Val-d'Oise,
France, John “The Beast” Mugabi beats René Jacquot in one-
round to capture the WBC light middleweight belt, after Jacquot
breaks his ankle in the opening round, forcing him to quit.
